The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

Summary:
A reimagining of the Iliad, this books follows tells the story of the lives of Achilles and Patroclus. A book filled with prophecies, adventures, death, and an epic love story.
My Thoughts:
I was worried that I might not like this book so it felt a little slow for me at the beginning. Part of the reason for that was also because you could tell the story would span years and take a while to get to certain anticipated parts.
As I settled in for the wait, I enjoyed the writing and the backstory given for the main characters. I think that’s part of the beauty of this story. The war and prophecies are not the focus but the people and the love story is. The author did an amazing job of setting up what feels like the most beautiful and tragic love story of all time.
This is a great read and one I thoroughly enjoyed but I don’t think it’s for everyone. There so many praises I have for this book but it’s not a Greek Mythology adventure story and for that I think it may not be for everyone. If you love Greek Mythology and want a heart rendering love story, then this book is for you.
