Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score

Summary:

Naomi is a runaway bride who has been robbed by her sister and left to take care of the niece she didn’t even know she had. She is now stuck in the small town of Knockemout and one of its citizens already hates her guts. Knox hates high maintenance women but he can’t leave Naomi helpless and alone. As long as she doesn’t get attached, things should be fine right?

My Thoughts:

Starting out, I was a little worried I wouldn’t like this book based off the first few pages. It was clear who stole Naomi’s car and I went into this book blind. Yet, Naomi wasn’t able to connect the dots. She also managed to keep forgetting the people would look at her and think she was her twin sister and would be confused by people reactions. I just didn’t find this believable when you know your twin  sister has been living in the town for a year and already faced the confusion from others.

I also wasn’t sure how much I would like the dialogue based of the first chapter but I was determined to give this book a chance and I’m glad I did. I enjoyed it immensely and finished it in about three days.

The romance is well written. Knox is a great character who shows he cares through his actions and Naomi is learning to prioritize her own life better. The tension between the two is obvious and fun to read.

The author created a great small town and community. The setting added nothing but enjoyment to the story.

Both Naomi and Knox showed decent character development but were remarkably stubborn along the way.

I would have loved for the growth to come earlier in the book. The end felt rushed given the length of the book. I think the story could have benefited from more chapters after resolution rather than an epilogue but maybe that’s just a personal preference.

The length of the novel really sold the life Naomi had created and the feeling of getting a glimpse at life in Knockemout. Overall, this is a great book and also drop everything amazing but not quite. Happy reading!
