Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

Summary:

Persephone and Sam were best friends and spent every summer together growing up. They may have even been each others one true love. Now, years later, they haven’t spoken in years and Persephone still holds the truth of what happened all those years ago. When she gets a call that Sam’s mom has died, she know she will be facing the place she left behind so long ago and the people. Can both Sam and Persephone face what broke them apart? Can they find the love they used to have for each other?

My Thoughts:

I’m going to be honest, I was fully expecting not to like this book and boy was I wrong. It was a book I know a lot of people like and I haven’t had much luck with those recently.

The story is told from alternating past and present perspectives. It was beautifully done even if it infuriated me at times.

The writing was incredible and truly reminds you of the feeling of young love and what it means to love your best friend. This story honestly made me wish I had experienced a love like the love between Percy and Sam.

As I read, I had so many guesses about what happened between Sam and Percy and how the book was going to end. I came close with my guesses but I was still very much shocked with how things turned out. I’m happy to say this was not a predictable storyline for me.

My only critique is Percy as an adult still didn’t seem to be able to face the actions of her past. Years of therapy and she still seems to be living in such an emotionally unstable manner. I understand how hard things may have been for her but she’s had years to work on coming clean that her stress of the situation felt a little over done.

Despite that last bit, this was an amazing read for me. I dropped everything to finish this one and recommend you do too!
