Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune

Summary:

After spending exactly one amazing day together, Fern and Will go their separate way but promise to meet up again one year later. It’s been nine years since Will never showed and Fern has spent too much time think about why. When Will shows up to help with the resort that Fern has inherited from her mother, she is completely thrown. Can she trust Will help and to not leave her disappointed again?

My Thoughts:

I really loved Every Summer After so I had high hopes for this one. Sadly, I did not love it as much but I still enjoyed it.

I love the idea of spending one amazing day with someone stranger or not. The author beautifully managed to establish how much one day can impact a person. It made me think of some of the amazing days I’ve had in my life.

This story felt a little slow at times but maybe that makes it the perfect summer read?

I wasn’t a huge fan of the plot line because so much felt unresolved the majority of the time. When the truth finally comes out, it feels and essentially was forced. This made it hard to connect to the characters for me. For two people who are so drawn to each other, they ignored and kept so much to themselves. Both were unwilling to fight for what they wanted and I’ll definitely be spending some time think about how that works in a story.

I think it was decent read but nothing that I would running to the nearest bookshop to get.
