A Ruinous Fate by Kaylie Smith
Summary:
Calla is cursed in more ways than one. With powerful forbidden magic and the possibility of being the last blood warrior, Calla is doing everything she can to conceal these secrets and prevent discovery. When her ex betrays her, finding a way to escape her fate becomes a necessity. This includes traveling into the dangerous never ending forest and putting her trust in people she doesn’t know that well.
My Thoughts:
The story is gripping, action packed, and entertaining. The explanations of the world, the witch queens, and the dice could have used some work to be honest but I’m hoping the second book will dissipate any confusion.
The main group of characters is essentially a collection of misfits and outcasts. Each has their own past to contend with and a desire for a better future.
Ezra and Calla are slightly infuriating as characters. The tension between them is clear there but they manage to muck things up all the time.
I’m very curious about Gideon’s connection to Calla and what hand fate has dealt them.
I could not believe the ending to this book. Talk about a twist! While I expected a similar outcome to happen to at least one character, I did not think it would happen to the character that it did. This was a very good read even if it was a little chaotic and I’m onto book two.
