Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz

Summary:

Set during the American Revolution, Alexander Hamilton has made a name for himself as General Washington’s aid. Eliza Schuyler is one of three beautiful sisters of the well-known Schuyler family looking for more than just a marriage wanting romance and love as well. This is the story of Alex and Eliza trying to fall in love despite the pressures of war, a still developing nation, and family history and traditions.

My thoughts:

This is historical fiction so it’s a little different from what I usually read but I enjoyed this story. I liked the way their love story progressed; there was a beginning, a middle, and an end with some conflict thrown in. Their relationship didn’t happen too quickly nor was it built up to some good but unsatisfactory end.

I felt the story was a little too simple and lagging at times but I think that can be a draw. It’s simple and sweet.

As with many historical novels, this setting is what brings the story to life. You get to imagine what it is like to live in the 1700s and what it’s like to try find love with a war going on. And if you’re like me, who doesn’t love history, you will still have a cute love story. For now, I am going to say I read this book for you until I can read more of the story.
