Big Chicas Don’t Cry by Annette Chavez Macias
Summary:
This story follows the live of four cousins who were once close. They must all learn to navigate love and loss and find a way to keep their connection through it all.
My Thoughts:
It’s been a a while since I read a book that I thought was a five star read but this book changed that.
This book is considered women’s fiction and I was lucky enough to to see this author speak about her book in person at the Texas Book Festival in Austin, Tx.
The family dynamics and the individual relationships were orchestrated beautifully. You feel like a part of the family reading this book which I think is something truly special. You get a look into the life of a each cousin and you get to be there for some critical moments similar to the way you would be in your own family. The way the drama unfolds and the way communication flows in the family is so realistic and relatable.
True to the realistic quality of the story, each cousin had a unique ending and one that maybe wasn’t the happily every after. That’s exactly how life is and it doesn’t mean that a happily ever after isn’t in the cards. The endings fit perfectly with where the character is in their journey and gives you hope that maybe one day they will find their happy endings.
This book is the perfect family drama and I honestly think this is a book worth dropping everything for! If you pick up this book, let me know you think!
