By the Book by Jasmine Guillory

Summary:

Isabelle is lost in life and desperate to find a way to get her life back on track. Beau is a jaded celebrity with a reputation and has not turned in a singe word for his memoir. As a last ditch effort to find her path in publishing, she volunteers to pay Beau a visit and convince him to get moving on his memoir. She finds getting Beau to deliver more difficult than she thought but an extended visit may be what they both need.

My thoughts:

I had so much fun reading this book especially after reading If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy.

Izzy is a character that I found I could relate to. She’s burned out from her job, she feels stagnant in life, and she understands the difficulty of speaking up or biding your time in the workplace when you are female POC.

Now past that, the rest of the store isn’t really relatable. I think the story is a fairy tale in its own right in the sense that is was unrealistic but cute and fun to daydream about. Again, this is a very modern retelling so it doesn’t really resemble the original fairy tale in my opinion.

I think this story was fun to read but not one that you need to drop everything for. It’s a great read but don’t expect too much from this retelling. Just enjoy the story and keep in mind this is a fairy tale story 🙂
