Counterfeit by Kirstin Chen

Summary:
Ava is a model Chinese American with a seemingly good life. The problem is her law degree hasn’t been used, her marriage is in trouble, and her toddler is constantly throwing tantrums. Then enters her college roommate, Winnie, who excludes confidence and a glamorous life. In Winnie’s case, the secret to success is a counterfeit scheme of luxury handbags. Winnie could use someone like Ava who would never be suspected of being involved with a counterfeit scheme. But, when their operation is threatened and Winnie vanishes, Ava is left to deal with the consequences.
My Thoughts:
This was the first book I listened to and I loved it! The story kept me interested the whole way through and I think part of that had to do with the narration.
The way the story is told is part of what keeps your attention. Ava is telling her story to a detective which makes you wonder how she ended up there and this also means the story goes from present to past.
The author also switches perspectives but not regularly and not until part way through the book. This may sound like a downfall but it was wonderfully done and added to the story.
What I love about the book is that you think you have the character figured out but as you read you realize you don’t.
While it’s not the most exciting story, it’s a good one. I recommend this book to anyone looking to read something a little different and who just wants to casually enjoy a good story.
