Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Summary:

Emily Wilde is close to completing her Encyclopedia of Faeries. She is determined to include a chapter on the elusive faeries called the Dark Ones and plans to spend the entire winter researching these faeries. Her colleague and only friend Wendell Bambleby shows up to offer his assistance and do a little research of his own. In the midst of her research, she discovers more about Wendell and herself than she ever expected.

My Thoughts:

I was a little concerned that I was going to have trouble staying interested in this book because of how the story is written. Because the story is told mainly from Emily’s perspective, the narrative comes across very academic in tone as Emily only love is her research. However, don’t let that dishearten you from reading this book! The academic actually needed up adding to the charm of this story. This fantasy novel is full of curiosities and kept me interested all the way through.

I absolutely love the faeries of this world! Faeries are some of favorite creatures in fantasy and this book did not disappoint me in any way on that front.

Bambleby was not what I was expecting when he was first introduced but I loved him by the end. He has some sass to him which I really appreciate.

Emily seems to have trouble with social interaction but I appreciate her straightforward nature and how driven she is to complete her work.

I absolutely love Poe as a character and if anyone knows of any good character art for him , please let me know!

Overall, this was in intriguing and entertaining tale of one of Emily’s research expeditions and I’m excited to find how her and Bamblebys story continues in book 2. If you’re a fantasy lover, drop everything to read this book and the wait with me for the second one!
