Go Hex Yourself by Jessica Clare

Summary:

Reggie answers an ad in the paper to work as a familiar to a witch, only she thinks she is applying to work for the makers of her favorite magic card game. The pay is great and she gets to be a live in apprentice to an eccentric thousands year old witch. The problem is the witch’s insufferable nephew, Ben, who clearly wants her gone. When a curse falls on the household, Reggie and Ben must stick together to find a way to break the curse. Having to spend so much time together, they find they actually understand each other and have more in common than they think.

My Thoughts:

I thought this was going to be a cheesy witchy romance and am happy to say that was not the case.

This book was so funny and enjoyable to read. From Reggie finding out magic is real to the Dru’s chaotic behavior, it’s all such a delight to read. It’s probably what I would imagine conversations would be like if magic was real.

Ben is tall, handsome, vulnerable, caring and protective all wrapped into one five hundred year old warlock with no reservations about what he wants. *fanning myself* Did I mention there was some spice?

For a novel that ended up being rather lighthearted, the author did an amazing job of getting you invested in the curse plot, establishing magic in the world, and serving some good character development.

I was hoping for a different/heavier answer to the cause of the curse, but it probably wouldn’t have fit as well with the lighthearted tone of the book. Overall, a great read and an author you should check out!
