If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

Summary:

A Cinderella retelling with a drastically modern twist. Cindy is obsessed with shoes and has just graduated with a design degree. But, with no job offers in sight and her parents gone, Cindy decides to sign up for the nation’s most popular reality dating show, Before Midnight, to help gain exposure for her designs. Amidst all the drama, secrets, and a house full of girls and producers, Cindy finds she might actually be falling for the guy.

My Thoughts:

I’m a such a fan girl for this book! First I want to praise Julie Murphy for such an amazing story and for actual representation for the LGBTQ+ community in her novel.

My main and pretty much my only hang up with the book is that it didn’t really remind of Cinderella. However, is that truly such a bad thing? The original story is definitely not perfect but it’s one I fell in love with. It is truly one of my favorite fairy tales so I’m a little disappointed that it didn’t resemble the story I know and love.

Now onto Cindy herself! Where has this character been all my life? She is so real and unabashedly herself. She is one of the only plus sized characters I’ve read that owns her curves and makes some really excellent points in regards to plus size fashion.

Prince Charming is sweet and very likable. Though Cindy is the star of the show, this is still such a cute love story.

I rate this read as GREAT but don’t expect the original story. This retelling is pretty far from the original fairy tale. Other than that I recommend giving this book a read and let me know what you think!
