It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Summary:

Lily has come a long way from the small town she grew up in. She is making the life she wants for herself and sparks fly when she meets Ryle, a successful neurosurgeon. Ryle is a whirlwind of emotions and has a no dating rule. As Lily and Ryle navigate the possibilities of a relationship, Lily’s first love reappears.

My Thoughts:

I can see why Colleen Hoovers books are so talked about. Her writing flows really well and keeps you fully engaged in the story.

Not only that but her plot lines bring out so much emotion. I feel like with this book in particular she took the story places maybe some authors wouldn’t. In doing so, there are some scenes that are definitely difficult to read.

I appreciated the multiple perspectives that Colleen Hoover showcases regarding domestic violence with this story and highly recommend reading the authors note.

One of my major critiques of the book is how Lily handles seeing Atlas again. She is her own person and an adult by this time who is fully able to express her thoughts and feelings.

Some of my other criticisms are how random the letters feel to be addressed to Ellen and the fact that this book has a reputation of being a romance novel when it is clearly not that.

I’m looking forward to what Colleen has in store with It Starts With Us and I honestly think this book is worth reading as long as you are aware of the trigger warnings. The storyline may not be perfect but this book lingered with me emotionally and I think that’s a sign of some decent writing.
