Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki

Summary:

Freddy just wants Laura Dean to stop breaking up with her. Her friends don’t understand why she keeps getting back together with Laura. After consulting a psychic medium and an advice columnist, she learns to navigate love and friendship as a teenager.

My Thoughts:

I was drawn to the this book because of the cover and the title. I wish I would have paid more attention to the synopsis and thought more about what the title would mean.

The majority of the novel follows Freddy through a very unhealthy relationship and how her friendships suffer as a result. It was a little hard to read about someone being in such an unhealthy relationship and I’m thankful I haven’t had to experience that type of love.

This graphic novel has some great LGBTQ+ representation and I loved the characters! Some of the art was confusing at times but still beautiful and expressive of what the characters were feeling.

There is a good message about love in this book which is the main reason I would recommend it. It’s a good graphic novel but not one I would recommend to everyone
