Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas
Summary:
Catalina is desperate for a date to her sisters wedding if only to show that she is not broken after what happened with her ex. Aaron, her arch nemesis at work, very surprisingly offers to be her date. While Lina would rather refuse, she find he may be her only option. After spending some time with Aaron, Lina realizes he may not be that bad but can they convince her family that they are in love?
My Thoughts:
I’ve heard pretty mixed reviews about this book so I was a little worried that this book would fall flat for me.
The start of the book only added to that worry. The whole opening scene seemed awkward and a little ridiculous. The story progressed slowly and at times seemed very drawn out. I was determined to give this book a fair shot though and I am so glad I did because I ended up really liking it.
Catalina is a little nuts at times but not unlikable. Aaron is the one I fell in love with. Aside from the typical hot boyfriend physical description, he is so caring, thoughtful and considerate.
Despite the really long buildup, once the main event came along, I did not want to put the book down. Given how everything ended, I would have loved more to the story and not just the epilogue that was provided. Everything felt rushed at the end, and all the real conversations about the relationship between Catalina and Aaron didn’t happen until after something major happened which seems backwards if not impractical.
The book as whole gave me a whole mix of emotions but I’m glad I read it. I think this book is genuinely a good read you just have to have patience with the pacing and the maybe even the characters a little.
