These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan
Summary:
Brie hates the fae and avoids any dealing with them at all costs. But when her sister is taken by the king of the Unseelie Court, Brie will do anything to get her back including making a deal with the fae king. She must gather relics and information from the Seelie Court to uphold her end of the deal and the best way to do so is to pretend she vying for the heart of the seelie Prince Ronan. Further complicating her feelings for the prince is the charm of Finn, the leader of Unseelie outcasts. Everyone has their own agenda which will make it difficult for Brie to decide who she can trust.
My Thoughts:
Overall, I genuinely liked this book. Normally, I give my opinion at the end but I have some mixed feelings about this book. I will say that it is a good read, both interesting and easy to get through.
The story overall feels a little underdeveloped in my opinion. Here you have a great premise and a foundation for such an interesting world and story but the details are lacking to make it great.
This extends to the characters as well. I think the writing style more than anything contributes to the shortcomings of the characters. The thoughts of the characters and the events of the story aren’t fully explored giving you a sense of just drifting through the story preventing you from really connecting.
The events at the end of the book were absolutely infuriating to me and made me really dislike Abriella as a character.
I am going to read the next book because I’m interested to know what happens next. The story is good in the sense that you have a fairly simple storyline to follow and you’re left with curiosity about how the story plays out. Happy reading!
