Too Soon For Adios by Annette Chavez Macias
Summary:
Gabby just lost her mother to cancer and the last think she expects is to meet her biological father, Raul, at the funeral. Drowning in debt and trying to get back on her feet, her father’s offer to sell a house starts to look better and better. She accepts his offer but everything has to be on her terms and her relationship with her biological father will stay strictly business. To top it off, her contractor gets on her nerves and is the mayor of the town. Away from her family and friends, she’s given a chance to process her grief, find herself again, and maybe even build new relationships.
My Thoughts:
If you have followed me for a while, you know that Annette Chavez Macias’s book, Big Chicas Don’t Cry, was one of my top reads of 2022. Knowing that, this book lived up to every expectation I had.
There is something about this author’s writing that makes be feel like I’m reading the story of a friend. Her writing flows in a seemingly natural way without feeling like you’re being fed a plot device. Her stories alway feel like the perfect balance of life including family drama, grief, relationships, love, feeling lost, and then finding yourself.
I loved the town and the characters the author created. Each has their own character arc with personal history, unique personality, and growth. Gabby’s exploration of her roots and coming to terms with her family history was inspiring.
I also just want to add how much I loved discovering the representation of Mexican Americans in her books that I didn’t know I needed.
This is such a heartwarming read and will no doubt my one of the contenders for my top reads of the year. Overall, a great read and one that I recommend reading!
